Victor Frankenstein

Directed by Paul McGuigan, screenplay by Max Landis and original score by Craig Armstrong.
Starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. Released by 20th Century Fox in 2015.

“Paul’s visual talent is very strong and it made writing to Frankenstein easy in that respect as the film looks incredible. You can very much see the influence of Paul’s photographic eye in the film where every scene is like a carefully crafted still.

From the very start we had the same artistic vision for the music. Paul is very musical and open to experimentation and this made it an enjoyable and exciting collaborative process. We had a good understanding of what we both wanted to convey to match the special cinematic atmosphere of the film and the world of Frankenstein. We discussed certain specific sound elements and phrases we wanted to include among the orchestral elements of the score. We blended the orchestra with vintage synthesisers and unusual acoustic instruments like the glass armonica. The score was written in my studio in Glasgow over several months and finally recorded at Air Studios in London.”
