In 2000 Craig Armstrong was invited to create a new work for orchestra and voice by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
The result, titled When Morning Turns to Light, is made up of six short segments running concurrently and brings together harmonies from violin and voice – eventually threading the two disparate worlds together in a hymn-like coda.
Award-winning Scottish mezzo soprano Colette Ruddy (RSAMD) performed the work with the RSNO at its world premiere, which marked the re-opening of the prestigious Edinburgh Usher Hall in December 2000.
