Craig Armstrong first met Glasgow actor Peter Mullan when they both worked at the Tron Theatre in the 1990s. The pair would go on to become regular collaborators, beginning in 1995 with Mullan’s entry into the world of directing.

Close, Fridge and A Good Day for the Bad Guys is a trilogy of short films depicting life on the margins in Glasgow, directed by Peter Mullan, edited by Colin Monie and produced by Frances Higson. The Tartan Short, Fridge, won multiple awards. Armstrong’s music brought a delicate melancholy to the work, and it has been tied to Mullan’s films ever since – most recently on the 2010 feature Neds.
